Strong

The strongest two-lab record here: Consumer Reports rates its crash protection Best, and BabyGearLab's head and chest readings were among the lowest in its test group.

  • An earlier version of this page cited PFAS testing from a Latin American Romer page; Romer's US page does not state it.
Good
  • Consumer Reports: Best crash protection, overall score 80, LATCH fit 5/5.
  • BabyGearLab (2025): second-lowest head reading and a chest reading tied for best in its group; installation 9.3 with LATCH.
  • Rigid LATCH, load leg, anti-rebound bar and an automatic belt tensioner (Romer).
Caution
  • CR: the lockoff "can be awkward to thread and difficult to close if belts have too much tension".
  • $499.99; BabyGearLab measured the carrier at 10.2 lb.

What we could not verify

  • No chemical test located.
  • BabyGearLab measured the carrier at 10.2 lb against Romer's 9.3 lb.
  • CR fit 5/5 LATCH, 4/5 belt and carrier-only; BabyGearLab install 9.3 LATCH, 8.5 belt, 6.5 without the base. Lockoff can be awkward to thread and difficult to close if belts have too much tension Multiple harness loops behind seat may cause confusion for harness adjustment These recorded installation cautions need review against the Recommended rule. A score is kept on its laboratory scale; no new numerical cutoff has been applied.

  • Installation grade: High. CR fit 5/5 LATCH, 4/5 belt and carrier-only; BabyGearLab install 9.3 LATCH, 8.5 belt, 6.5 without the base. Re-verified: the strongest combined crash evidence here. Named best overall in this re-audit. Removed the earlier statement that PFAS testing is part of Romer's protocol: it came from a Latin American Romer page and is not on the US page. Consumer Reports: Romer Juni (match: current). Lockoff can be awkward to thread and difficult to close if belts have too much tension Multiple harness loops behind seat may cause confusion for harness adjustment BabyGearLab: Romer Juni (match: current).

Why we reached this verdict

Both labs rate the Juni's crash performance highly on the current model. Consumer Reports rates its crash protection Best (overall score 80), and BabyGearLab's September 2025 test recorded the second-lowest head reading and a chest reading tied for best in its group. Installation scores are strong too: BabyGearLab gave it 9.3 with LATCH and 8.5 with the belt, and CR 5/5 LATCH fit. It combines rigid LATCH, a load leg, an anti-rebound bar and an automatic belt tensioner.

CR found the belt lockoff awkward to thread when the belt is tight. Romer says its Seawool and Nativa wool fabrics are naturally flame-retardant with no added FR chemicals. The earlier page said PFAS testing was part of Romer's protocol; that statement came from a Latin American Romer page and isn't on the US page, so we removed it.

Independent crash tests

Consumer Reports and BabyGearLab run their own crash tests with different equipment, methods and scales. Neither publishes raw measurements, so we report each result in the lab's own terms and never combine them. Passing the federal standard is required of every seat and is not a comparative result.

Federal compliance and recalls

Every seat sold in the US must meet FMVSS 213. The side-impact requirement, FMVSS 213a, applies from December 5, 2026. We did not find a side-impact (FMVSS 213a) statement on the manufacturer page we reviewed.

No recall of this seat was located in NHTSA's recall data (searched September 23, 2026).

Check your own seat by its model number and manufacture date at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and register it with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you.

Materials and chemical claims

  • “Seawool and Nativa wool... are naturally flame-retardant with no added FR chemicals (leatherette accents excluded)” (Romer, manufacturer statement)

Flame-retardant claim only (leatherette accents excluded); PFAS is not addressed on Romer's US page.

“Free of added flame retardants” means the manufacturer says none were added on purpose. It is not a lab result showing none are present, and no seat on this page has published independent chemical testing.
