Consumer Reports rates this baseless seat Best for crash protection; its listing shows a 35-lb rating, while Clek now sells the Liingo at 30 lb.

Model verification required: Consumer Reports lists this seat at 4-35 lb; Clek's current page says 4-30 lb. See version details.

Good
  • Consumer Reports: Best crash protection, overall score 75.
  • Clek names flame retardants, PFAS, fluorine and phthalates as excluded, one of the most specific disclosures here (manufacturer claim).
  • No base to leave in the car: LATCH connectors are built into the 9-lb carrier.
Caution
  • Only one lab has tested it, and the tested listing's weight rating differs from current production.
  • Vehicle fit 4/5 in every method (CR); you install it on every trip.

What we could not verify

  • Only one independent program (CR) has tested it.
  • Whether the CR-tested unit matches current 30-lb production is unconfirmed.
  • No product-specific chemical test located.
  • Model verification required: Consumer Reports lists this seat at 4-35 lb; Clek's current page says 4-30 lb.
Why we reached this verdict

The Liingo is Clek's baseless seat: the carrier has its own LATCH connectors, so there is nothing to leave in the car. Consumer Reports rates its crash protection Best, with 4/5 vehicle fit using LATCH, the seat belt or carrier-only routing. No second lab has tested it.

We upgraded it from no verdict to Recommended because the CR result is for a seat of the same name, and the only open question is the weight rating: CR's listing says 4-35 lb, while Clek's current page says 4-30 lb. Several seats changed from 35 to 30 lb this year (see why many infant seats now say 30 lb), so the seat carries a model-verification flag. Clek lists the fabrics as free of added flame retardants, PFAS, fluorine and phthalates, its own statement rather than a lab result. Earlier production was covered by the same two remedied 2021 recalls as the Liing.

Design / model verification required

Consumer Reports lists this seat at 4-35 lb; Clek's current page says 4-30 lb.

  • Consumer Reports: Exact test-model match: unverified. CR's listing shows a 4-35 lb rating; Clek now sells the Liingo at 4-30 lb. Whether CR tested the current version is unconfirmed.

Evidence at a glance

Independent crash evidenceCR crash protection Best (tested listing rated to 35 lb). Evidence grade B: Independent crash testing exists, but the tested unit may differ from what is sold now: a different weight rating or model number, or an earlier version whose differences from the current one are undocumented. Shown with a model-verification flag.
Installation and misuse resilienceModerate. CR fit 4/5 for LATCH, belt and carrier-only; being baseless, it is installed on every trip. Good in some methods but weak in one, or the labs disagree, or a design requires re-installation every trip.
What the manufacturer says about flame retardants and PFASOne of the broadest disclosures here, naming flame retardants, PFAS, fluorine and phthalates. These are manufacturer statements; no lab result was located.
Regulatory statusTwo historical recalls on earlier production, both remedied
Exact-model confidenceModerate

Independent crash tests

Consumer Reports and BabyGearLab run their own crash tests with different equipment, methods and scales. Neither publishes raw measurements, so we report each result in the lab's own terms and never combine them. Passing the federal standard is required of every seat and is not a comparative result.

Installation features and lab observations

  • LATCH (UAS) connectors built into the carrier (Clek)
  • European belt path for belt installs (Clek)
  • No base, load leg or anti-rebound feature (baseless design)

Features are as described by the manufacturer unless a lab is named. A feature's presence is not evidence of better crash performance on its own.

Federal compliance and recalls

Every seat sold in the US must meet FMVSS 213. The side-impact requirement, FMVSS 213a, applies from December 5, 2026. We did not find a side-impact (FMVSS 213a) statement on the manufacturer page we reviewed.

  • NHTSA 21C006000 (Earlier production only): Units made before September 15, 2020; remedied.
  • NHTSA 21C007000 (Earlier production only): Units made before February 22, 2021; remedied.

Check your own seat by its model number and manufacture date at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and register it with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you.

Materials and chemical claims

  • “Free of any added Flame Retardants” (Clek, manufacturer statement)

  • “Fluorine-Free” (Clek, manufacturer statement)
  • “Phthalate-Free” (Clek, manufacturer statement)

One of the broadest disclosures here, naming flame retardants, PFAS, fluorine and phthalates. These are manufacturer statements; no lab result was located.

“Free of added flame retardants” means the manufacturer says none were added on purpose. It is not a lab result showing none are present, and no seat on this page has published independent chemical testing.

How this verdict changed

Before the September 23, 2026 re-audit: no verdict, evidence grade B. Now: Recommended, evidence grade B.

Upgraded from no verdict. CR rates its crash protection Best; the only mismatch is the weight rating on CR's listing (35 lb) versus current production (30 lb), the same relabeling seen across infant seats ahead of FMVSS 213a. The verdict now uses that evidence with a visible model-verification flag instead of discarding it.

What would change our verdict

  • Confirmation that CR tested current 30-lb production, or a new independent test of it.
  • A second lab's crash test.

What we still don't know

  • Only one independent program (CR) has tested it.
  • Whether the CR-tested unit matches current 30-lb production is unconfirmed.
  • No product-specific chemical test located.
