What we could not verify
- Consumer Reports has not rated the PIPA RX.
- No chemical test located.
Why we reached this verdict
In BabyGearLab's February 2025 crash test, the PIPA RX recorded the lowest head and chest readings of any seat in its group, and BabyGearLab names it its favorite infant seat. Installation scores were strong too: 8.5 with LATCH and with the belt, and 9.0 without the base. Nuna lists rigid LATCH, a steel stability leg and an anti-rebound panel.
Consumer Reports has not rated this model (its PIPA aire RX and lite RX ratings are for separate seats), so the evidence comes from one lab. Nuna states the materials are free of fire-retardant additives and GREENGUARD Gold certified; PFAS isn't addressed. It was out of stock at Nuna when checked.

Federal compliance and recalls
Every seat sold in the US must meet FMVSS 213. The side-impact requirement, FMVSS 213a, applies from December 5, 2026. We did not find a side-impact (FMVSS 213a) statement on the manufacturer page we reviewed.
No recall of this seat was located in NHTSA's recall data (searched September 23, 2026).
Materials and chemical claims
- “FR-free materials” (Nuna, manufacturer statement)
- “materials that are free of fire retardant additives” (Nuna, manufacturer statement)
- “Organic jersey insert” (Nuna, manufacturer statement)
Certifications claimed: GREENGUARD Gold (manufacturer-stated). GREENGUARD Gold limits chemical emissions (VOCs) into indoor air. It does not test for flame retardants or PFAS, and it says nothing about crash performance. We could not confirm this claim in UL's certification database, which blocks automated checks.
Flame-retardant claim only; PFAS is not addressed.
