Maxi-Cosi Peri 180

Installation: Limited$$$

Quick verdict

Verdict
Caution
Evidence
Moderate

A rotating seat with a load leg that Consumer Reports rates Better for crash protection but ranks 43rd of 46, citing vehicle fit and installation aids.

Product identity on record: IC364GKF; IC397 (Kindred Collection); Base IC402. Check the current product and version.

Caution
  • CR: vehicle fit 3/5 with LATCH and belt, 2/5 carrier-only; ease of use 3/5.
  • CR: the belt-tensioning aid "doesn't work well or consistently", and the recline indicator is hard to read.
Good
  • Consumer Reports: Better crash protection; the swivel eases loading and harnessing.
  • Load leg, anti-rebound bar and 180-degree rotation (Maxi-Cosi).

What we could not verify

  • Only one lab has tested it.
  • No chemical test located.
Why we reached this verdict

The Peri 180 rotates toward the door for loading, and Consumer Reports says the swivel makes getting a baby in and harnessed easier. It rates crash protection Better. The rest of CR's evaluation is weak: vehicle fit 3/5 with LATCH or the belt and 2/5 carrier-only, ease of use 3/5, a belt-tensioning aid that "doesn't work well or consistently", and a recline indicator that is "only a line on the carrier". Its overall score of 51 ranks 43rd of 46.

We moved it from Recommended to Caution because those are documented installation risks. Maxi-Cosi says its PureCosi fabrics are made without added fire-retardant treatment; PFAS isn't addressed.

Independent crash tests

Consumer Reports and BabyGearLab run their own crash tests with different equipment, methods and scales. Neither publishes raw measurements, so we report each result in the lab's own terms and never combine them. Passing the federal standard is required of every seat and is not a comparative result.

Federal compliance and recalls

Every seat sold in the US must meet FMVSS 213. The side-impact requirement, FMVSS 213a, applies from December 5, 2026. We did not find a side-impact (FMVSS 213a) statement on the manufacturer page we reviewed.

No recall of this seat was located in NHTSA's recall data (searched September 23, 2026).

Check your own seat by its model number and manufacture date at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and register it with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you.

Materials and chemical claims

  • “PureCosi fabrics are made without wool or added fire retardant treatment” (Maxi-Cosi, manufacturer statement)
  • “EcoCare premium 100%-recycled fabric made from plastic bottles” (Maxi-Cosi, manufacturer statement)

Flame-retardant claim only; PFAS is not addressed.

“Free of added flame retardants” means the manufacturer says none were added on purpose. It is not a lab result showing none are present, and no seat on this page has published independent chemical testing.
