Evidence
Limited

Consumer Reports rates the Mico Luxe+ Best for crash protection, but its listing doesn't say whether it tested the later IC384 or the recalled IC370.

Model verification required: Consumer Reports' listing does not give a model number; the later Mico Luxe+ is IC384, the recalled one IC370. See version details.

  • IC370 (recalled 2023, base lower anchors) and IC384 (later) have both been sold under the Mico Luxe+ name.
  • Maxi-Cosi's infant collection now lists the Mico Pro (IC418) and Mico Pro+ (IC419). They are different seats and were not reviewed here.

Product identity on record: IC384 (per Maxi-Cosi support center). Check the current product and version.

Good
  • Consumer Reports: Best crash protection, overall score 88, 4th of 46; vehicle fit 5/5 with LATCH and belt.
  • Load leg and no-rethread harness; PureCosi fabric made without added fire-retardant treatments (Maxi-Cosi).
Caution
  • The earlier Mico Luxe+ (IC370) was recalled in 2023 because its base's lower anchors could fail; the later IC384 isn't listed.
  • Maxi-Cosi no longer lists it (its current Mico seats are the Mico Pro and Pro+), so retail stock may be older.

What we could not verify

  • Only one lab has tested it, and the tested model number is unknown.
  • Maxi-Cosi no longer lists it, so remaining retail stock may be older production.
  • No chemical test located.
  • Model verification required: Consumer Reports' listing does not give a model number; the later Mico Luxe+ is IC384, the recalled one IC370.
Why we reached this verdict

Consumer Reports rates the Mico Luxe+'s crash protection Best (overall score 88, 4th of 46) and credits its load leg and self-retracting LATCH connectors. Its listing doesn't give a model number, and two versions have been sold under this name: the IC370, recalled in 2023 because the self-retracting lower anchors in its base could fail, and the later IC384, which that recall doesn't list.

We keep it Recommended but lowered the evidence grade from A- to B and flag the model for verification. Maxi-Cosi stopped listing the Mico Luxe+ during this audit; its current Mico seats are the Mico Pro and Mico Pro+, which we haven't reviewed. Retailers still sell the Luxe+, so check the model number and manufacture date on any seat you buy or own. Maxi-Cosi says its PureCosi fabrics are made without added fire-retardant treatments; PFAS isn't addressed.

Independent crash tests

Consumer Reports and BabyGearLab run their own crash tests with different equipment, methods and scales. Neither publishes raw measurements, so we report each result in the lab's own terms and never combine them. Passing the federal standard is required of every seat and is not a comparative result.

  • CR: "Excellent crash protection with load leg"
  • Push-on LATCH connectors with automatic retractors (CR)

Features are as described by the manufacturer unless a lab is named. A feature's presence is not evidence of better crash performance on its own.

Federal compliance and recalls

Every seat sold in the US must meet FMVSS 213. The side-impact requirement, FMVSS 213a, applies from December 5, 2026. We did not find a side-impact (FMVSS 213a) statement on the manufacturer page we reviewed.

  • NHTSA 23C002000 (An earlier model number): The 2023 recall lists the Mico Luxe+ as IC370: the base's self-retracting lower anchors could fail. Owners got a free replacement base. The later IC384 is not listed.

Check your own seat by its model number and manufacture date at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and register it with the manufacturer so recall notices reach you.

Materials and chemical claims

  • “PureCosi fabrics made without wool or added fire-retardant treatments” (Maxi-Cosi, manufacturer statement)

Flame-retardant claim only; PFAS is not addressed.

“Free of added flame retardants” means the manufacturer says none were added on purpose. It is not a lab result showing none are present, and no seat on this page has published independent chemical testing.

Prices and stock change often. Price and retailer availability play no part in the verdict.

How this verdict changed

Before the September 23, 2026 re-audit: Recommended, evidence grade A-. Now: Recommended, evidence grade B.

Kept as Recommended; grade lowered from A- to B because CR's listing does not identify whether it tested the IC370 (recalled for its base) or the later IC384. NHTSA's recall report confirms the recall named IC370. Maxi-Cosi stopped listing the Mico Luxe+ during this audit; availability does not change the verdict.

What would change our verdict

  • Confirmation that CR tested the IC384, or a new independent test of it.

What we still don't know

  • Only one lab has tested it, and the tested model number is unknown.
  • Maxi-Cosi no longer lists it, so remaining retail stock may be older production.
  • No chemical test located.

  • NHTSA recall 23C002000: Child Seat Lower Anchor Failure/FMVSS 213, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (Dorel Juvenile Group). Published March 3, 2023. Accessed September 23, 2026. Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel) is recalling certain Safety 1st onBoard 35 Secure Tech, Safety 1st Secure Tech Infant Base, Maxi-Cosi Coral XP, Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max, Maxi-Cosi Mico XP, Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe+, and Maxi-Cosi Infant Base child seats. Please refer to Dorel's recall report for specific model numbers. The lower seat anchors used to secure the child seat base may fail, allowing the child seat to detach. As such, these child seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, "Child Restraint Systems."
  • Infant car seats collection, Maxi-Cosi. Accessed September 23, 2026. The Mico Luxe+ was not listed.
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe+ retail listings, Albee Baby, The Baby Cubby and other retailers (search results). Accessed September 23, 2026. Retailers still listed the Mico Luxe+ after Maxi-Cosi stopped listing it. Seen in search results; the listings were not opened.
  • Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23C-002 (Dorel infant bases), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Published March 3, 2023. Accessed September 23, 2026. Lists the Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe+ under IC370. A third-party lab test of a Safety 1st onBoard 35 SecureTech (IC351) sample showed a structural separation under FMVSS 213; Dorel traced it to a self-retracting lower-anchor mechanism used in the bases of the listed models. Production dates were not reported in this filing. Owners were told to install with the vehicle belt until a free replacement base arrived.
