Kudos Diapers
Quick verdict
A cotton topsheet and disclosed TCF/FSC pulp are positives; conflicting test results need resolution.
Check the package version: the research does not yet confirm an exact match to every current product. See version details.
Testing results vary across samples/sizes and current package generation must be matched to each test. See the full research below.

The only major disposable we found with a 100% cotton topsheet rather than a plastic one against skin. TCF, OEKO-TEX certified, fragrance-, phthalate-, latex-, and paraben-free. One independent 2023 test found its size-4 diaper's organic fluorine (a PFAS marker) at up to 53 parts per million while the same-materials size 5 came back non-detect; Kudos then had a different lab (Vartest) retest in December 2023 for total organic fluorine, which came back non-detect, and disputes the original result as cross-contamination. That leaves the finding genuinely unresolved between two labs rather than confirmed clean, which is why this sits in caution rather than verified despite otherwise meeting every other criterion.

Materials & ingredients
| Material or ingredient | What it is | Concern level | Why it's flagged here |
|---|---|---|---|
| PFAS | PFAS ("per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances") is a family of thousands of manufactured chemicals that share a carbon-fluorine backbone, one of the strongest bonds in organic chemistry. | Avoid entirely | A single 2023 test found organic fluorine up to 53 ppm on the size-4 diaper specifically; a same-materials size-5 came back non-detect, and a Kudos-commissioned retest at a different lab (Vartest) also found nothing. That leaves the finding genuinely disputed rather than confirmed, which is why this sits in caution rather than avoid despite the flag. |

Testing history
| Source | Date | Tested for | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independent lab testing | 2023 | Organic fluorine (a PFAS marker) | Size-4 diaper: up to 53 ppm detected. Same-materials size-5: non-detect. |
| Vartest (retest commissioned by Kudos) | December 2023 | Total organic fluorine (Vartest method) | No detectable total organic fluorine. Kudos disputes the original 2023 finding as cross-contamination. |

This evidence file is still being deepened with citations and package-version detail — the published verdict above already reflects everything gathered so far, and doesn't change as that detail is filled in.
What you should know
- Multiple independent organic-fluorine screens reported detectable ppm-level results in Size 4/other samples, while a Size 5 sample was non-detect.
- Conflicting analytical evidence exists: Mamavation reported detectable organic fluorine in multiple samples, while Kudos reports Vartest Total Organic Fluorine testing of Size 4 as non-detect. Underlying methods, reporting limits, sample provenance and signed reports require direct reconciliation.
What's still uncertain
- Detected organic fluorine does not identify a specific PFAS compound; batch/size/sample variability needs deeper investigation.

Final verdict against our diapers standard
Caution Published as Caution under the published standard for diapers, based on the specific, dated findings above. That standard was written before this or any other product on the page was evaluated, and doesn't change to fit a favorite — see the full site-wide standard for how every category is held to the same process.
