- The lab behind Pura's testing claim
- Whether MADE SAFE's line-level listing covers this capacity
- No independent test of a non-insulated Pura bottle was found, and Pura’s historical lead-solder issue concerned insulated bottles.
- Pura states no solder, no paint and no plastic contact. We found no independent teardown or lab report for this exact bottle.
Why we reached this verdict
The Kiddo pairs a single-wall 18/8 stainless body with a platinum-cured silicone straw, a stainless and silicone collar, and a silicone cover and sleeve. Pura states it is paint-free, has no plastic contact points and uses no solder, because its standard non-insulated bottles use none. No valve is listed, so the wet path is the body, straw and collar, and Pura's product feed describes the straw as two pieces. Pura's care page says the top components can be boiled for 5 minutes and that the bottle is top-rack dishwasher safe.
The same limits apply as for Pura's other Kiki products: the construction and testing points are Pura's statements, its testing claim names no lab and publishes no report, and MADE SAFE lists its "Straw Bottles" and Kiki silicone straw at product-line and component level without dates or test data. The insulated-bottle lead history concerns other Pura bottles and no independent test of a non-insulated Pura bottle was found. A straw is a narrow wet passage that needs a brush and full drying, and Pura gives no straw-specific steps. It is a Leading design, with a verification flag.

What the evidence shows
Pura Stainless (MADE SAFE certified products collection)
The collection page lists "Straw Bottles" among Pura products with MADE SAFE certification. It shows no capacity, SKU, test data, method or detection limits, and no certification date (the year given is when the page was viewed). It is a product-line listing and does not state that the 11 oz Kiddo straw bottle or its straw was checked for particle release or solder.

Construction, coatings and base
| Wall | Single-wall, non-insulated |
|---|---|
| Coatings, paint and decoration | Pura states the bottle is paint-free. |
| Base and solder construction | No solder: manufacturer states. Pura states there is 'no solder in our standard non-insulated bottles'; this bottle is single-wall and non-insulated. No independent teardown was found. Source: Pura Stainless, manufacturer disclosure. |

| Boiling | Manufacturer states allowed |
|---|---|
| Sterilizer (steam or electric) | Manufacturer states allowed |
| Dishwasher | Manufacturer states allowed |
| Microwave (product care) | Manufacturer states not allowed |
| Temperature limit | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
Pura’s care page says to boil the stainless steel and silicone top components for 5 minutes (it does not address boiling the body separately), that the bottles are top-rack dishwasher safe and electric-sterilizer safe, and not to use microwave sterilizers on metal parts or put stainless bottles in a microwave. It states “Never give a child liquid at a temperature above 99°F / 37°C” and gives warming steps for non-insulated bottles. It does not say whether the hot water the CDC calls for with higher-risk infants can be poured into the bottle, so follow the CDC guidance and ask your pediatrician.
Cleanability
| Parts (as listed) | 5 |

| Hidden wet cavity | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| Narrow vent, valve or straw passage | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| Special brush needed | Yes |
| Can dry completely | Not stated in the sources reviewed |
| Replacement parts sold | Yes |
Five components are listed: bottle, collar, straw, travel cover and sleeve, and Pura’s feed describes the straw as two pieces. A straw is a narrow wet passage that needs a brush and full drying (our reading, since Pura gives no straw-specific steps beyond its general instruction to use a bottle brush and not damage the drink holes or vents). The opaque body is harder to inspect. Straws are separately sold MADE SAFE-listed parts.
What was tested, and what is only a claim
Independent testing of this exact product
None found as of September 30, 2026. That is missing evidence, not a finding against the product. Where a laboratory report is published, we will show the lab, method, batch, analyte, result, unit and detection limits, and we will never write a non-detect as zero.
What the manufacturer states
- BPA, BPS, phthalates, lead: 'BPA-free. BPS-free. PP-free. Phthalate-free. Lead free.' Manufacturer disclosure Pura Stainless
- Plastic: Pura states the design has no plastic contact points. Manufacturer disclosure Pura Stainless
- Pura's site-wide statement: components independently tested by an unnamed lab with no detectable BPA, lead, phthalates, nitrosamines, cadmium or PVC. No report is published. Manufacturer testing claim Lab not named. No report, method or detection limit is published. Pura Stainless
Background evidence about the materials (not this product)
- Stainless steel: Prefer single-wall stainless with no solder, no interior coating and no painted surface where liquid can reach, and treat the no-solder point as a construction fact to verify. Evidence for stainless steel
- Silicone: Silicone is practical and often preferred for nipples and soft interfaces. Findings on generic silicone are background and do not establish exposure or harm from any one product. Evidence for silicone
Certifications, and their scope
| Certification | Item listed and status | Scope | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| MADE SAFE | 'Straw Bottles' at product-line level and 'Kiki Silicone Straw' as a component, on MADE SAFE's Pura collection. Listed as certified. No date shown. | The named lines and components. No capacity or SKU is listed. | No test data, method, batch or detection limits are shown, and the listing does not state whether particle release or solder was assessed. |
History that bears on this evidence
- Pura’s insulated bottles and lead solder. Insulated Pura bottles only. It does not describe the non-insulated bottle reviewed here. Pura states that insulated bottles it made before 2017 could have a solder material containing lead, that it has used a certified lead-free solder in insulated bottles since 2017, and that its standard non-insulated bottles use no solder. A lead-testing advocate, Tamara Rubin, reports XRF screening that found a lead-containing sealing dot on the bottom of insulated Kiki bottles bought through at least January 2018, including one labelled MADE SAFE Certified, and says the issue is not relevant to Pura’s non-insulated bottles. Her account is not a regulator’s finding, gives no numeric results, and no CPSC recall of Pura bottles was found. Pura Stainless, Lead Safe Mama (Tamara Rubin), U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (SaferProducts.gov recall service)
- What a MADE SAFE listing does and does not show. All Pura products that carry the listing. The MADE SAFE listing pages show that a product is listed as certified. They do not show test data, methods, batches or detection limits, and they do not say whether solder or base construction was assessed, so the listing cannot on its own verify a construction statement. MADE SAFE (Made Safe Index), MADE SAFE (Made Safe Index)
Recalls and legal history
No recall of this exact product was located in the sources reviewed. A recall elsewhere in the category does not apply to it.
- Green Sprouts, CPSC 23-711: The stainless-cup lead recalls involved other brands' solder or base construction. Pura states this bottle uses no solder; that is a manufacturer statement.
What we still don't know
- Exact-SKU metal migration
- The lab behind Pura's testing claim
- Whether MADE SAFE's line-level listing covers this capacity
- No independent test of a non-insulated Pura bottle was found, and Pura’s historical lead-solder issue concerned insulated bottles.
What would change our verdict
- An independent laboratory report or teardown for this exact bottle
- Evidence of solder, a coating or a plastic part in the fluid path

Independent study Published April 16, 2026. Accessed September 30, 2026. Tested migration of 35 siloxanes from 30 silicone food-contact products into food simulants under worst-case conditions and modelled exposure. Cyclic siloxanes exceeded proposed limits in several samples, particularly for children; D4 and D5 showed negligible risk while D3 raised potential concern, and 14 low-molecular-weight siloxanes (including D6 and L12) exceeded the threshold of toxicological concern across all age groups in the modelled scenarios. The products were silicone food-contact items sold in China, not the products on this page, and the exposure figures are modelled. Abstract read through Crossref.

- #Leaded: Made Safe Certified Pura Kiki Baby Bottle Purchased New in January of 2018, Lead Safe Mama (Tamara Rubin). Independent test Accessed September 30, 2026. The author reports that XRF screening of a Pura Kiki insulated stainless steel baby bottle bought new in January 2018, labelled MADE SAFE Certified, found a lead-containing sealing dot on the bottom cap. This concerns an insulated bottle, not the non-insulated bottles on this page. Posted in July 2018. An advocacy tester’s account.
